One of the last remaining stars from Classical Hollywood cinema, Dahl rose to prominence during the 1950s as an actress. Hailing from Minneapolis with stunning red locks that shone through movies such as Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) and Three Little Words (1950).

Life magazine featured her prominently on their September 1949 cover and she regularly played Cyrano de Bergerac alongside Jose Ferrer in 1953. Additionally, she published a syndicated beauty column entitled “Let’s Be Beautiful” in Chicago Tribune newspaper.

Life With Father (1947), in which she played the Rheingold Beer Girl. This marked her first screen appearance; afterwards she joined forces with comic Red Skelton in two comedies (A Southern Yankee and Watch the Birdie), plus three musicals including Three Little Words.

She was also known for modeling at Marshall Field’s department stores in New York City. Once retired from acting, Dahlia perfume collection was released for sale worldwide.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and of Norwegian heritage, Dahl was raised by her parents Idelle Swan and Rudolph S. Dahl (both Ford Motor vendors and executives). She attended Margaret Fuller Elementary School before enrolling at Ramsey Junior High School and Washburn Senior High School where she took dance and elocution lessons along with participating in theatrical productions and theatrical events.

After graduating from Washburn, Arlene Dahl began working a variety of jobs – performing in local theater groups and modeling for department stores – before eventually founding Arlene Dahl Enterprises and writing her syndicated beauty column.

As of 2020, she had an estimated net worth of $6 Million. As an ex-contract actress for MGM she has amassed an immense fortune throughout her career.

She and Marc Rosen have three children together: Lorenzo Lamas, Christina Carole Holmes and Rounsevelle Andreas Schaum.

Lorenzo Lamas, her eldest son, is an actor who has appeared in several films as well as producing some of his mother’s works.

At her lifetime’s end, she received numerous accolades for her work. In 2007, she was honored by induction into that institution’s National Film Registry.

Arlene’s most notable film performance was Journey to the Center of the Earth, an adaptation of Jules Verne’s sci-fi classic in which she co-starred with James Mason and Pat Boone. Arlene also performed as Roxane in a revival production of Cyrano de Bergerac on Broadway.
