Ex Excape Spiced Cognac

The name “Ex Excape” is quite a mouthful, but the spiced brandy is actually a cognac variety. It is named after Cognac, France and the surrounding wine-growing region. There are several different kinds of Cognac, each of which has their own distinct flavours and aromas. The spiced version is especially interesting. It is also available in different colors, and is not always available at every liquor store.

Cognac originates from a white wine, typically ugni blanc grapes. Copper stills are used to distill it. The eau de vie is the water of life. It is similar to the white dog in bourbon. The spirit is aged in French oak barrels, where it absorbs the tannins, imparting its distinctive color. This is the process that gives the cognac its distinctive taste and colour.
