A plea deal has been reached in the case of D’Lanny Chairez, who is accused of tampering with evidence against her son James. The prosecutors waived one count of tampering with evidence, and D’Lanny pleaded no contest to a second charge. The charges stem from allegations that Chairez hid the baby’s body in a trailer. She faces up to 10 years in prison. In addition, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.

The baby, James, was reported missing on Jan. 4 of the year 2021. Surveillance video showed the child was last seen on Jan. 4. However, a search of the mother’s apartment turned up other evidence. The police found the baby’s crib sheet, a car seat, a stroller, and diapers. Chairez is being held in jail on $150,000 bond.
