The Bigger The Hair The Closer To God

This expression was popularized in the 60s. It states that the longer your hair, the closer you are with God. Although there is some truth to the expression, it incorrectly refers to religious dogma. Instead, it refers to a 60s hairstyle and is usually associated with women. Today, however, a bigger head of hair does not necessarily mean that you are closer to God. That said, some women are attracted to this era’s hairstyles and can be considered to be closer to God.

This hairstyle was popularized in the 1960s when society was less secular and many Americans believed strongly in Christianity. Families would go to church in their Sunday best, which included suits, jackets, and dresses for men and women. This usage of Sunday best soon faded with the introduction of different hairstyles, and secularization began to become the norm. Then, in the 1990s, hairstyles became increasingly secular.
