Tom Glavine was a two-time National League Cy Young Award-winning pitcher who played for the Atlanta Braves. He earned 10 selections to the NL All-Star team and won 305 games throughout his 22 year career, culminating in winning a World Series Championship with them in 1995.

Glavine was born on March 25, 1966 in Concord, Massachusetts and has been active in a number of charity organizations for many years. He currently serves as president of Volunteers of America and sits on the board of directors at both CURE Childhood Cancer and National Children’s Home.

He was raised in Billerica, Massachusetts and attended Billerica Memorial High School where he earned the distinction of being on the honor roll and inducted into the National Honor Society four times. Graduating with high honors in 1984, he was later inducted into Billerica Memorial/Howe High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993.

In 1984, he was selected by both the Los Angeles Kings in the NHL Entry Draft and Atlanta Braves Major League Baseball organization in the 2nd round of 1984 amateur baseball draft. Deciding to pursue a career in baseball, he made his professional debut on August 17th 1987, winning 20 games that year and posting an earned run average of 2.55. Additionally, he won his first National League Cy Young Award in 1991.

After retiring from the game, he served as special assistant to Atlanta Braves president John Schuerholz for three seasons and has been a color commentator for the team since 2011. Additionally, he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

The former MLB player and his wife Christine have five children together. One of their sons, Peyton, was drafted in the 2017 MLB draft and is set to attend Auburn University on a baseball scholarship. Together they reside in Johns Creek, Georgia where he coaches his sons’ baseball and hockey teams.
