Mattress Firm Foster Kids
The Mattress Firm recently announced a $50,000 donation to former foster youth. Partnering with Ticket to Dream, the company asked nonprofit foster care partners to nominate two families with former foster youth. After reviewing thousands upon thousands of submissions, Mattress Firm selected two families to receive a makeover at Mattress Firm shops. The makeovers will enable the families to move from foster care into a permanent home. The company is planning more in-store activations for the program.
To help further their mission, Mattress Firm has launched a photo contest for children who have made a difference in foster care. The winner will receive a $500 gift certificate from Toys “R” Us and a $5,000 donation to their local Mattress Firm Foster Kids partner. While the contest is now over, participants can continue to help foster children by collecting clothing and toy donations in their local community. Once the photo contest ends, Mattress Firm will deliver the clothes and toys to the nonprofit partner.
In addition to the donation of a new mattress, the Mattress Firm is also helping children in foster care who are struggling to afford a new bed. The company’s foster family program, which started with a Texas foster mother, was established in 2007. Mattress Firm has since been working with the foster community, and proudly serves them with special discounts and pricing. Their Foster Homes program offers special non-profit pricing for children and foster homes, as well as licensing inspections.
The campaign will remain open until June 26. During that time, the company will hold a national clothing drive wherein customers can donate gently used children’s clothing and school supplies for foster kids. In addition to clothing, Mattress Firm foster kids will also collect items for the school supply drive and other extracurricular activities. It will be the largest collection of clothing and school supplies in a single day, and it will provide much needed relief for the foster kids in our communities.
Another partner of the Mattress Firm Foster Kids program is Ticket to Dream. Through their efforts, the organization has given away more than 610,000 items to foster kids, which is an incredible feat. The company supports more than 115 nonprofits across 40 states and holds annual donation drives to collect items for the kids. Simone Biles plans to attend as many drives as possible. This will be the first step towards empowering foster youth for brighter futures.
Simone Biles knows firsthand the challenges faced by foster children. With the help of Mattress Firm, Simone collaborated with Octagon to create a video. Simone’s iPhone selfie received more than 2,000 Facebook interactions and 584,886 Instagram likes. In addition to the social media campaign, Jackson Spalding also helped the internal team of Mattress Firm produce a video to help them spread the word about the campaign. The resulting video received more than 32,607 views on Facebook and 101 engagements on Twitter.
