Hammer Time Pants
Hammer time pants are baggy, yellow pants that were made popular by hip-hop artist MC Hammer. The name is a reference to a lyric in one of Hammer’s songs, “U Can’t Touch This.” Although the pants have been worn extensively, they still remain very comfortable, and they’re in great vintage condition.
The flamboyant pants MC Hammer wore in his 1990 mega-hit “Hammer Time” video are reminiscent of harem pants from the Middle East. These pants were first introduced to the West by a French designer in the 1910s. Some people confuse the harem pants with parachute pants. These are tight, sitting pants that are usually made of nylon, and they usually have pockets. During the 80s, they were popular with breakdancers.
Hammer was also known for his baggy harem pants during the 1990s. They were sometimes referred to as parachute pants, and he even made a Taco Bell commercial in which he jumped off a rooftop wearing a pair of these pants. Other hip-hop artists, like Justin Bieber, wore these pants as well. Recently, Elite Daily reported that parachute pants were back in style in 2013.
