Hannah Roberts, a Transgender BMX Racer, Competes in the Olympics
If you’ve been following the BMX scene for any length of time, you’ve probably heard of Hannah Roberts. She is a professional freestyle BMX racer from the United States who started hustling at age nine. She has competed in many international events, including FISE World Series and other BMX titles. She also won the Olympics.
While most BMX riders are straight, Hannah Roberts is a transgender woman. She was born a boy but has a female XY chromosome, making her a transgender. As such, she is a woman who was born a man, but has undergone a transformation that has made her gender a non-issue.
The transgender athlete was born a woman, but has since married a man of the same sex. Hannah Roberts has many thousand Instagram followers. Through her social media posts, she has confirmed her gender identity. You can find her on Twitter at @hannahbmx1.
Hannah was able to take off a few months after her surgery, but she still competed at BMX competitions. She competed in France at the FISE series and won 250 euros. However, she had to pull out of the next event due to a broken arm. She was able to compete in Denver with a modified cast. Hannah traveled to Chengdu in China in October for the final FISE series event. The payout in Chengdu was 12,000 Euro.
As a child, Hannah enjoyed playing football. Hannah enjoyed the physicality of football and loved the challenge of playing on the line. Her youth football league was only for girls and, when she broke through, the boys would grab her ponytail. Hannah cut her hair eventually and never had a ponytail. Hannah also enjoyed watching sports but did not like to lose. She wanted to win, and she had no idea she would do it.
Despite the challenges she faced, Wolfe has managed to earn the respect of her peers and is now preparing to compete internationally. If qualifying teammates cannot compete, Wolfe will go to the Summer Olympics. If she does qualify, she will be the first transgender athlete to compete in the Olympics. If she is unable or unwilling to compete, she will serve as a reserve for Team USA.
In the 2014 Toronto Jam, Hannah and Benegas qualified for the final round of the competition. She rode up a quarter pipe to a wide platform and then sped toward a ramp that was much higher than her head. Hannah then spun her handlebar in midair, landed in a perfect circle, and rode down the ramp. Hannah became the first transgender woman ever to ride BMX in this final round.
Although her sexuality is still being questioned, she is happily married to her best friend, Kelsey Miller. They have been friends since childhood and have been together for many years. They were engaged on Thanksgiving 2020 and got married January 6th 2021. The couple is now planning a more formal wedding in 2022. Later, it was revealed that she and her partner were expecting their first child in 2022.
