Jame Ruelas Stabbing
A judge found that Stevenson was guilty of stabbing James Ruelas after the attack took place in a bar in Brooklyn. Stevenson was on his cell phone when the incident occurred. He was yelling and using profanity. Stevenson also screamed at someone on his cell phone. Ruelas was about five or six feet away from Stevenson when he was approached by Stevenson. Stevenson asked him to move, and Ruelas was unarmed. The defendant then stopped in front of shrubs and struck Ruelas in the neck and head. The defendant did not appear at trial, but was read his testimony at the preliminary hearing.
Rueles was four years old at the time of the incident. His home was in Detroit, around 40 miles from the crime scene. The suspect is now in jail on an aggravated battery charge for the attack. Rueles had a rough childhood. His mother was transient and often left him home alone. His mother would sometimes leave him at home to take care of the family.
