Street Smart Script

It’s not always easy to find a great screenplay. Street Smart was written by David Freeman during the late 1970s, when Filmways Pictures was making Streets of New York. The script had a budget of $8million and a start date of fall 1980. However, that movie never came to fruition. Christopher Reeve happened to come across it on a bookshelf and, after consulting with his agent, decided to pursue it.

”STREET SMART” is a surprisingly complex and compelling piece of work. It’s not a cliched redemption story and follows Jonathan Fisher from his first misstep and builds into an absorbing study of loose talk and high-powered journalism. Set in Times Square, the movie is a tense study of the perils of pursuing a dream. It’s full with surprises, twists, and turns, but it’s still a highly entertaining piece of cinema.
