Daisy Teen

Two teenagers, Daisy and Audrie, are facing the same problems. However, their stories are very different, but they share a common theme: coming of age. The stories reflect the complexities of today’s sexual culture, as well as the realities of coming of age in an increasingly technological and social world. Both teens have a unique sense for humor. Their contrasting endings were both heartbreaking and relatable. Both teens found a way to heal and accept each other, and that’s what makes them so compelling.

Currently, Daisy is a first-year student at the University of Houston, studying journalism, with plans to pursue political science later. Before starting college, Daisy graduated from Papillion-LaVista South High School, where she was involved with many different clubs and organizations. She served as the school’s Black History and Women’s History Month committees and was a student council representative. She was also a captain for the Titanium Varsity Show Choir, and Homecoming Court.

In 50 Questions to Ask Your Teens, Daisy Turnbull draws on her experience as a teacher and wellbeing director to offer advice to parents and educators on raising an exemplary adult. She asks parents and teens to brainstorm together the tasks they would like to do by themselves, and then lists the tasks teens can do with help. Daisy encourages parents and teens to start small with tasks like washing dishes or doing laundry.

Although the story of the two girls is tragic, it is not over. Despite the tragedy and the outrage that it brought to the town, Daisy Coleman’s case has brought national attention to the small community. Netflix’s “Audrie & Daisy” tells her story. A new documentary about her community explores the victims’ experiences. In addition, Daisy Coleman is an inspiration to many. There’s no better way to end a generation of sexual abuse than to help young women get back on their feet and move forward.
