Dua For Starting Fast

The Dua For Keeping Fast in Ramadan

The first Ramadan is today, and Muslims worldwide will spend the next ten days in prayer, sacrificing certain habits, and raising money for the community. Each day of Ramadan comes with its own dua, and the first one to be recited is “wabiSawmi Gadin nawaiytu min shahri ramaDana.”

The Dua for Keeping Fast in Ramadan is recited with the intention to fast during the month. It is made in the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Lord of the worlds and universes. Fasting is one of five pillars of Islam, and is a requirement for every Muslim. The purpose of fasting is to seek Allah’s pleasure and to be more pleasing to Him. During Ramadan, Muslims refrain from eating or drinking from dawn to dusk, and this means that they are physically and mentally depleted.
