The Johns Hopkins Center for the Arts has long been a favorite venue on campus. In honor of the late professor Morris Offit, the university will name a wing of the center adjacent to Charles Street in his honor. The former vice president and secretary of Hopkins has been active at Hopkins for more than half a century. A 1953 Hopkins graduate, he returned to campus in 1961 as an aide to President Milton S. Eisenhower. He has worked with six Hopkins presidents and five Hopkins board chairs. In addition, he has overseen the operations of the president’s office.
Charles Hopkins Theatre
In 1926, Charles Hopkins built an intimate playhouse in New York City and named it the Charles Hopkins Theatre. But the Charles Hopkins Theatre also played host to a strange variety of movies, including pornography. The playhouse premiered “Deep Throat” in 1972, and it closed its doors in 1987.
