Otilia Piros
Ottilia Piros was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, and friend. She died on Aug. 10, 2016 at age 36. Piros was born on August 11, 1986. She was a devoted animal lover and had lived with her father for the past 18 months. Piros attended the Greece Arcadia School.
After her body was discovered, the investigation has focused on her 17-year-old daughter and her 16-year-old boyfriend, Richard Avila. Both have been charged with the murder. They are accused of shooting Piros twice in the head in her home. Their motives are still unknown, but authorities believe that the shooting was not random.
Piros’ mother had contacted police after she had not heard from her daughter. Officers found Piros’ body in the kitchen of her home. She had died from an apparent gunshot wound. Investigators believe that Piros was shot on Dec. 28 or 29, and they also found a handgun in her vehicle. The suspects fled in the teenagers’ vehicle. They were stopped by a police officer in Missouri in the early morning hours of Dec. 29. Court records indicate that the teens had been traveling at speeds of 111 mph when they were stopped.
The teen couple’s car was searched for evidence after detectives located a handgun. It was later determined that the handgun was used in the shooting. They are currently in custody in Missouri pending extradition to New York. They have not been assigned attorneys or entered pleas yet. They are being held without bail.
