He was also a singer and bass drummer in his high school band. While studying speech and drama at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, he joined Upsilon chapter of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity while there.
His iconic nicknames included “Uncle Arthur” and “Hawkeye”. He featured in the Broadway version of Bye Bye Birdie and voiced many characters from Hanna-Barbera series.
Before becoming well-known, Lynde was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity at Northwestern University and served on the Mount Vernon High School board of trustees as its president for a period.
