The American religious leader was born on September 9, 1924. His father, Marion Clavar Nelson, was a manager of a Gillham Advertising Agency and his mother, Floss Edna Anderson, worked as a reporter for the “Deseret News”. During the 1929 stock market crash, the family was forced to flee to Utah where they settled. Russel M Nelson was the youngest of three siblings.

While in high school, Russell Nelson enrolled in LDS Business College. He graduated first in his class. From there, he attended the University of Utah School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree. Afterwards, he went on to work as a doctor in hospitals in Utah.

Russell Nelson is married to two different women. His first wife was Dantzel White. They had a daughter, Marsha, who died unexpectedly in 2005. This caused the family to bond even more closely. After the death of their daughter, Russell married Wendy L. Watson. Their marriage took place in the Salt Lake Temple in 2006.

After their divorce, Russell Nelson married another woman. Her name is Louise Harris. She was only half his age. Before their marriage, he had been dating her for a couple of years. A little over a year after their marriage, he proposed to her.
