How Much is Stevin Smith Worth?

If you’re a basketball fan, you might have heard of former NBA player Stevin Smith. He’s one of the stars of Netflix’s new series Bad Sports. This show is a revealing look at world-famous scams. One of the stories told is the life of Steven aka Hedake Smith, who’s famous for his role in the point-shaving scandal at Arizona State University.

Before his big break, Smith had a stellar college career at Arizona State. After he graduated, Smith made his mark playing professionally overseas. During his career, he was a two-time All-Pac-12 selection, was a part of the team that won the FIBA World Championship in Canada, and was a member of the U.S. men’s national team.

However, Stevin ‘Hedake’ Smith was ensnared in the point-shaving scandal, which led to his arrest and sentencing to one year in prison. In addition to the jail time, Smith had to face the consequences of his actions. While the point-shaving scandal wasn’t the biggest thing in the history of sports, it is a scandal that has been talked about a lot.

The point-shaving scandal ensnared Smith and his cronies. In December of 1997, Smith and his longtime friend and fellow Arizona State player, Benny Burton, entered guilty pleas to conspiring to fix games. The pair admitted to taking bribes in order to rig games. The FBI became suspicious of the spending, and after a month, the authorities took Smith and Burton into custody.

Smith was released from prison after a short stint, but he returned to the professional game in 2000. Among his many accolades, he was named an All-Star in 1992, received the NBA’s Sportsmanship Award in 1998, and played for the Portland Trail Blazers and the New Orleans Hornets.

When he was done playing, Smith turned his attention to philanthropic endeavors. Aside from coaching at the University of Michigan and working as an analyst for the Big Ten, he founded the Steve Smith Scholarship for Academic Achievement at Michigan State.

He has also worked with a nonprofit organization called NOW (No Opportunity Wasted). Using his experience as an athlete, Smith works to teach young people about the dangers of gambling. Some of his notable endorsements include Gillette, Fit Bit, Koala Mattress, and Weet Bix. Despite his successes, the former basketball star remains very private about his personal life. On social media, he prefers not to disclose his marital status.

His success at the international stage has earned him the Allan Border Medal. He’s also a two-time winner of the Shooting Stars competition and was named the ICC’s Test Player of the Year in 2015. But if you want to know more about the man, watch Bad Sports, which debuted on Netflix on October 7, 2021.

In a nutshell, Smith was caught in the middle of a scandal that was designed to help Benny make a lot of money. Unfortunately, he landed in the middle of the scandal and ended up facing a one-year jail sentence and three years of probation.
