John Riggins net worth is an American former football player who previously competed for both the New York Jets and Washington Redskins. Over his 14 year NFL career, Riggins amassed over 11,000 rushing yards and 116 touchdowns; upon retirement from playing football he went on to become a commentator/host of sports-themed television show.
Riggins has distinguished himself through a long list of contributions to charity work and veteran support initiatives; including his involvement with fighting AIDS through Riggo’s Rangers Foundation for veterans and their families. Rigggins currently lives with Lisa-Marie in Cabin John, Maryland with their two sons.
Riggins became famous during his tenure with the Jets for his hard-running style and physical strength. His 6-2, 230-pound frame made him an effective ball carrier. Four times, Riggins led the team in rushing yards while his iconic 4th and 1 run during Super Bowl XVII remains one of its most memorable plays ever witnessed in NFL history.
Riggins was born in Seneca, Kansas and attended Centralia High School where he excelled as both a football and basketball athlete at all-state status. Following high school he played college football at University of Kansas setting numerous rushing records before being drafted by New York Jets (in 1971) where he spent five seasons before being traded to Washington Redskins (where he spent another five) until finally retiring from professional sports in 1985.
Riggins also provided television and radio sports commentary after retiring from the NFL, hosting “Riggins and Russo,” a weekly sports-themed television program on WCBS-TV New York that proved very popular during NFL seasons.
In 1998, Riggins established The John Riggins Company – producing television and radio shows centered on NFL and college sports – before selling it to CBS Corporation and becoming CBS Sports Productions; producing shows for networks including ESPN, NFL Network, Fox Sports and NBC Sports.
Riggins has an outstanding work ethic and enjoys taking on new challenges. He takes an eager and competitive approach in everything he does, from volunteering his time for those in need to playing Outlaw Country music that he loves. Additionally, Robert, Portia, Emil, Liberty and Hannah make up his close-knit family unit. He and Lisa-Marie live together at Cabin John, located along the Potomac River. Married for more than a decade, they enjoy hunting and fishing together as well as spending time with their two beloved canine companions, Riggo and Little Bit. It seems they place great value on relationships; plans for expanding their property with a pool and guest house in future expansion efforts are underway.
