Owen Gray 2021
This year’s rowing charity challenge oars is all about raising money for children with cancer. Okizu, which offers peer support programs for families of children with leukemia, is one of the charities that will benefit from this challenge. Owen Gray is one the four solo entrants to this year’s challenge. He will row 3,000 miles across Atlantic Ocean from San Sebastian (Canary Islands) to Nelson’s Dockyard, English Harbour, Antigua.
Owen Gray has been a household name throughout his career in Jamaica. He is widely considered to be the pioneer of reggae, outside of calypso. His career included R&B, rocksteady and reggae. While his discography features some top-notch releases, many reggae aficionados didn’t appreciate his voice. While he sang in a variety of styles, his mainly ballads were unappreciated by the reggae crowd.
