Jacob Schleinz

The family of Jacob Schleinz welcomes any and all condolences. He was twenty years old and a student at Indiana University. He died after he fell from the balcony of his apartment. The incident is under investigation and police are looking through surveillance footage to determine what happened. In addition, the family is collecting signatures from family and friends on a GoFundMe page in his memory.

Jacob was the son of Scott, Brad, and Kurt Schleinz. His sister, Stephanie Schervish, also survives him. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents and his paternal aunt Karen Brown. Jacob began his hockey career as a youth with the Champaign Chiefs hockey team. He was also a talented player who inspired many through his contagious positive energy.

Jacob was active in many organizations. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and volunteered with Riley Children’s Hospital. He also worked with Be The Match to help cancer patients. He was an organ donor and participated in Drop the Puck on Cancer events. He was also involved in raising funds through various other organizations, including the IU Dance Marathon and Kids for CASA.

The Indiana University Student Death Investigation is still ongoing, but the coroner believes the Fall was caused by a balcony fall. The fall occurred around 5:42 a.m. on Friday in the Urban Station Apartments in Bloomington. A woman who was with Schleinz at the time told police that she had been talking with him when he fell off the balcony. Police took him to the IU Health Bloomington Hospital where he later died.
